DARA, THE FIR TREE

Dara will be happy to accompany you on holidays. Dara is very funny and sociable. He will love that you place it in a special place in your home, where he cannot miss even the smallest detail of what is happening: he spends the year waiting for this moment of laughter, endless conversations and reunions.

MATERIALS

● 100% cotton yarns in colors of your choice: one color for the top of the fir tree (color A), another for the trunk (color B), another for the pompom (color C), pink for the cheeks and yarn residues or embroidery threads to embroider the details on the treetop, nose and mouth.

● Crochet hook according to the yarn thickness used (I used a 2.25 mm for the small tree and a 4 mm for the large one).

● Stuffing.

● Yarn and embroidery needle.

● Scissors, pins, and round marker.

● Safety eyes (I used a pair of 6 mm for the small doll and a pair of 8 mm for the big one. If you prefer, you can embroider the eyes).

STITCHES USED (US terms)

● mr – Magic ring

● sc – Single crochet

● ch – Chain stitch

● st / sts – Stitch / stitches

● sl st – Slip stitch

● BLO – Back loop only. Crochet inserting the hook only into the back loop of the stitch.

● inc – Single crochet increase (2 sc in one st).

● inv dec – Invisible single crochet decrease (2 sc together, front loops only).

● rnd – Round

● [no.] – The number inside the brackets is the total number of stitches of the round. Ex: [12] means that in total, there must be 12 stitches in the round.

● (…) xN – Repeat the instructions between the brackets N times. Ex: (1 sc, 1 inv st) x 6, means that we should crochet 1 sc, 1 inv dec 6 times.

CHEEKS

With pink

Crochet with a crochet hook and yarn thinner than that used to make the doll. If you prefer to make it with the same thickness of yarn and crochet, do only Rnd 1.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a MR

Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]

Make a slst and fasten off leaving a long tail to sew it to the tree top.

ASSEMBLY

Pin the pieces in place before sewing. Use the image as a guide.

1- Stuff softly the trunk and sew, centered, at the base of the treetop (optional: you can put a button on the base, and stuff on top, so that the tree remains standing).

2- Sew the cheeks under the eyes.

3- Make a pompom, with color C, and sew on the tip.
